In a major step forward for Alberta's technology sector, CoreWeave has been confirmed as the anchor tenant for eStruxture Data Centers' upcoming CAL-3 facility in Calgary. This new data center will provide 90 megawatts of capacity and is scheduled to start operations in the second half of 2026. The partnership signifies an important development for both companies and positions Calgary as a key hub for AI infrastructure.

Todd Coleman, founder and CEO of eStruxture, remarked, "Calgary has officially arrived as a top technology destination." The CAL-3 facility is engineered to maximize power density and cooling efficiency, which are critical for supporting advanced AI operations. Coleman noted that CoreWeave's commitment validates eStruxture’s infrastructure capabilities, designed to meet the demands of Canada's growing AI economy.

Plans for CAL-3 were first revealed in October 2024, with the facility expected to provide densities of up to 125 kW per rack. This expansion comes as eStruxture continues to strengthen its presence in Canada, currently operating two other facilities in Calgary and a total of 16 nationwide.

CoreWeave's decision to anchor Phase I of CAL-3 is further enhanced by the region's proactive approach to promoting AI innovation. Sachin Jain, COO of CoreWeave, commented, "CoreWeave’s investment is a result of Alberta's proactive approach to fostering AI innovation, and the provincial government and Invest Alberta have been terrific partners every step of the way." This collaboration not only benefits CoreWeave but also emphasizes the role of such facilities as drivers of economic development in their communities.

In recent years, CoreWeave has achieved significant milestones, surpassing 1 gigawatt of data center capacity across nearly 50 facilities and projecting to reach 1.7 GW by the end of 2026. The company has contracted for up to 8 GW of capacity by 2030, showcasing its ambitious growth in the AI cloud sector. CoreWeave’s clientele includes major tech companies such as OpenAI, Microsoft, IBM, Nvidia, and Meta, reflecting the strong demand for its services.

The partnership with eStruxture highlights the evolving landscape of AI infrastructure in Canada. With CoreWeave's established presence in Ontario, where it operates the CA-East availability zones, and its recent announcement as a customer of Bell’s forthcoming 300 MW campus in Saskatchewan, the company is solidifying its footprint in the region.

As the data center industry expands to meet the rising demand for AI services, partnerships like that of CoreWeave and eStruxture will significantly influence the future of technology infrastructure in Canada. These developments signal not just an increase in capacity but also a new era of technological growth and economic opportunity for the regions involved.

As CAL-3 nears its launch, the collaboration between CoreWeave and eStruxture sets an encouraging example for future initiatives in the AI infrastructure field, paving the way for ongoing innovation and investment in Alberta's tech ecosystem.
