Fenris Creations marked a milestone at EVE Fanfest 2026, celebrating its rebranding and independence from Pearl Abyss. This transition reflects the company's ambition and reaffirms its commitment to innovation within the gaming industry. CEO Hilmar Veigar Petursson outlined a vision that goes beyond traditional gameplay, aiming to enrich the EVE universe in new ways.
As a cornerstone of the Icelandic gaming scene for nearly three decades, Fenris Creations has made EVE Online a cultural phenomenon. The MMORPG has developed into a complex ecosystem of alliances, conflicts, and economic strategies. With this new chapter, the company is enhancing player engagement through upcoming expansions and technological advancements.
Expanding the EVE Universe
The company showcased exciting developments, including the upcoming "Cradle of War" expansion, which will introduce new starting zones, ships, and a military campaign system designed to deepen player involvement. EVE Frontier Cycle 6 will enhance the ship-building experience, improve interactions within the sandbox environment, and introduce new creator tools. Meanwhile, EVE Vanguard is set for a major playtest to refine gunplay and introduce new adversaries, further enriching the gameplay experience.
Petursson also revealed plans for an ambitious literary project, "The Capsuleer Edda," a poetic history of EVE Online that he envisions placing in prominent locations worldwide, including the Pyramids and even the moon. "Life is long… when you think of ‘EVE forever,’ we tend to find a way," he said, highlighting the enduring nature of the EVE narrative.
Partnership with Google Deepmind
A key highlight during the event was the announcement of a partnership with Google Deepmind. This collaboration will utilize an offline version of EVE Online to train Deepmind's AI models on complex systems. While some concerns emerged regarding generative AI's role within EVE, Petursson clarified that the focus is on understanding and responsibly applying advanced technologies.
"[These are] powerful new tools. You can use them for good and bad," he noted, stressing the importance of responsible use. He compared these tools to a bulldozer, which, while capable of significant utility, must be used wisely to avoid negative consequences. This philosophy aligns with the ongoing development of EVE Frontier, which integrates blockchain technology as a model for innovative yet responsible tech use.
Petursson reassured fans that the core values of creativity and quality will remain intact as Fenris Creations navigates this new partnership and technological landscape. The company is determined to use these advancements to tackle larger challenges while maintaining its artistic integrity.
As Fenris Creations moves forward, the gaming community watches closely. The next chapters of EVE Online promise to push boundaries, not just in gameplay but also in the integration of emergent technologies, setting a precedent for how gaming can evolve alongside innovation.
