SpaceX Eyes Ad Revenue Boost Through Integration of X and Grok

SpaceX's recent S-1 filing unveils strategies for boosting advertising revenue through X and its Grok AI service, amidst user growth challenges.

SpaceX's S-1 filing has outlined a strategy aimed at enhancing advertising revenue by integrating its social media platform X with the Grok AI service. Released ahead of a planned IPO, the document details a clear roadmap for using user engagement and AI-driven marketing tools to drive revenue growth.

X, which had about 550 million users as of March 2026, increased from 520 million users in December 2025, though it remains below the 600 million monthly active users previously claimed by the company. The filing noted that users generate around 350 million posts daily, down from 500 million in 2023, indicating a potential area for improvement in user engagement.

The integration of Grok, Anthropic's AI chatbot, has attracted attention, with roughly 117 million monthly active users. This suggests that about 21% of X users interact with the AI service, creating a significant overlap that SpaceX plans to leverage. Combined subscriptions for X and Grok rose by $365 million in 2025, totaling 6.3 million paid subscribers, which includes 4.4 million in the X Premium categories and 1.9 million using SuperGrok services.

Despite the strong subscriber growth, xAI reported a $6.4 billion operating loss in 2025 against revenues of $3.2 billion, prompting a shift towards monetization strategies. The filing stated, “We intend to drive X revenue growth by increasing engagement across our users, increasing X Premium subscriber conversion, growing advertising revenue per user, and diversifying our advertising base.” This focus on revenue growth is key, especially as advertising revenue at X has declined since Musk's acquisition in 2022.

Looking ahead, the company reiterated its vision for X as an 'everything app', consolidating various services like communications, payments, and media. While X Money entered beta testing in November 2025, details about its broader rollout remain limited, leaving many in the industry eager to see its future impact.

SpaceX's ambitions also extend to advertising strategies. The filing hinted at plans to introduce advertising linked to Grok, utilizing its capabilities in real-time information processing. The company seeks to enhance its advertising offerings by applying AI to optimize campaign performance and introduce richer ad formats aimed at improving advertisers' return on investment.

SpaceX’s long-term strategy includes expanding its AI infrastructure through orbital data centers. The filing revealed a significant agreement in which Anthropic is set to pay $15 billion annually for access to xAI’s Colossus data facilities. This positions SpaceX to potentially transform the AI infrastructure space in the coming years.

As SpaceX moves forward with its IPO journey, the integration of X and Grok, along with a renewed focus on advertising revenue, could alter its financial trajectory. With ambitious plans for user engagement and AI-driven advertising strategies, the company is preparing for a potentially lucrative future.
